Blink is a gorgeous 5 year old boy Cross-Breed who sadly is blind. We think it happened fairly recently and he is just starting to get used to his condition. Saying that, he has an extraordinary ability to map his environment and follow his carers. He tends to tap your leg to keep up with you as you walk along and has learnt to stay close. He can be a little unsure of other dogs but he has made friends with a few dogs and absolutely loved the social interaction. We would actually like to place Blink with another steady dog who could be a play mate and a guide for him. He feels more comfortable venturing away from his humans in the play paddock when he is with another dog and we feel it is good for him. He is growing in confidence daily and we can see that for him, having food, water and warmth without concerns is a huge positive for him.
Personality wise, Blink is one of the most affectionate dogs we have in the rescue. He adores people, demands hugs all the time and does need some level of reassurance with new things. He is a little panicky about new spaces and he needs to be walked on a harness as it would seem he has been poled and putting a lead on a collar makes him anxious. We have seen improvements with all these things in the short period of time we have had him and we know he will progress nicely once in a home.
Blink needs loving and compassionate home dedicated to his needs, who will provide him with the guidance he needs. In this instance, a relatively orderly home where things are not on the floor and in the way and where furniture doesn’t move about too much will be important. A very complicated layout may also not be the best.
We have placed a few blind dogs over the past few years and our families are absolutely amazed at these dog’s resilience and ability to cope. If he could make friends with another dog who could act as his eyes, it would be good. We would also like to find him a home that is not too urban, so that his walks are not in the middle of traffic etc.. no rural or semi-rural would be good. We are looking to place Blink in an adult only home.
We welcome your enquiries if you feel able to give this very smiley baby the right home and provide him with the right environment. Note… he will want to be on your lap when you’re watching TV! Only apply if you are happy with this.
