Bruno – 6 year old male German Shepherd Cross

Bruno is a 6 year old male German Shepherd Cross. Bruno is one handsome lad and he has a short tan and white soft coat. He is a German Shepherd/Podengo cross with a sad history. In the shelter for more than a year, he went into foster with an adoption pending. Sadly the adoption fell through and a year later, his foster home can’t keep him secure so will have to return him to the Shelter.

Bruno is a great family dog. He talks to everyone who visits and gets on famously with all. He has been settled with two smaller dogs and gets on well with them and also with a cat. He likes his “pack” to stay together and can become noisy and concerned if they become separated.

Bitten by a street dog in an attack at the beginning of his foster, Bruno has become very nervous and noisy around strange dogs. He can be noisy and aggressive towards smaller strange dogs, which needs careful handling. At close to 30kg, he is a strong willed boy on the lead, but he has responded well to a figure of 8, “Gentle Leader” type lead backed up with a secure harness; and he would probably be happy to wear a head harness.

Bruno’s recall is a bit patchy outdoors and he has been used to a 5m extension lead when there is not a secure environment for him to exercise. In a close environment, he is playful and responsive and will come, sit and give his paw for high 5 or for a treat. He knows how to “wait”, “stop” and “lie down” and “go to bed”. With a little persistence will learn more. He is a bright boy. Bruno is a great character with tons to give. Bruno was tested positive for low count Leish and put on Alopurinol, which worked as his last test he was negative. Current location is in the shelter in Portugal now – can travel to the UK once he has a home to go to.
