Everyone meet Dexter. He is a 5 year old male Shih Tzu who has found his way into rescue due to allergies in the family and his unpredictable behavior. Dexter is a sweet boy but a tad ridiculous at times. I think if you could put overthinking into a dog it would look like Dexter. He has a habit of freaking himself out over the simplest of things. Coming into rescue absolutely blew his little mind and it took me a few days to even be able to put a slip lead on him let alone touch him. Even then when he would jump up and ask for attention the little cogs in his head would suddenly start turning and he would completely freak out about me stroking him. Then ask for more when I stopped.
It’s been about 3 weeks now and we are starting to turn a corner with him. He loves frolicking around with the other dogs, I can put a lead on him and handle him fine. He’s happy to come to us and show us all his brilliant tricks for treats. It’s refreshing to see him forget about his anxiety and start to relax and be a proper dog. Dexter needs someone calm and balanced. He needs to know exactly what is expected of him and trust that the person knows how to keep him safe and not put him in situations that set him up to fail. Once he has that he will flourish into the most incredible little dog.
Dexter really loves other dogs and adores his walks. He gets so excited to go out. He’s such a sweet little lad and when you are past his initial fear he is very rewarding little chap. Dexter is housebroken, non destructive in the home and happy to be left for reasonable durations of time. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and will be subject to a homecheck and adoption donation. He will also come with 4 weeks free insurance and a voucher for a box of free food from Nutriment raw.
