Righty is a 6 week old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier. These 9 Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppies are approx now 6 weeks old, the result of an unplanned litter – their owners wants to do the right thing by these pups, they want them to have decent forever homes that have been properly checked out, so these pups can have a bright future for the rest of their lives and have agreed for them to come into Starfish’s care in the next few weeks. We are working closely with our Vets – the owners of the mum and pups turned to them for help as they needed help with Veterinary care of the pups. Our Vet is keeping an close eye on these babies and will tell us when the time is right for them to come into rescue to be suitably homed.
Our Vet has visited the pups a few times to make sure they are doing well and helped with worming them, monitoring their health and has been monitoring the mother who only a baby and is herself, is struggling with feeding. Starfish have now visited- we have taken food over for the growing pups and their mum and would like to thank Royal Canins and Ancestral Canine who have arrange for more puppy food for their current family and also Starfish once they come into our care.
These puppies will be not be ready until early July for rehoming – this will be after being wormed, vaccinated, chipped and vet checked thoroughly and monitored in one of our experienced foster homes. A vet history will be provided for each puppy.
People thinking about homing these pups need to consider that due to the parents most likely being related, there could be problems in the future, problems that we cannot foresee but that could manifest themselves as the puppies grow ie joint problems etc and because of this Pet Insurance is a must to make sure should problems arise, treatment can be covered.
These babies will not be placed in homes where there are other dogs that have not been neutered and they will only leave our care with a strict contract enforcing that the puppy, when old enough, will be neutered.
Meeting these pups they are happy, sociable babies, they have been well handled and obviously loved – their mum is taking great care of them the best she can – all except for little Bikini who is very tiny compared with the rest of them but she is also doing well.
We have taken pictures and videos of each pup – Staffies are one of the most misunderstood dogs – remember there are not bad dogs only bad owners – Staffies are wonderful, happy loving balls of fun – they make wonderful family dogs –its really important that as a rescue being entrusted with these babies futures that we get it right.. It is really important that these puppies go to homes where people will put the work into their socialisation and training and they become Starfish Ambassadors for the breed.
People who are experienced dog owners as families or couples will also come over families that have never had a dog before, people who work from home or part time will always be given preference over full time workers. People applying own dogs must be neutered.
It’s not a case of first come, first serve – it will take time to match these babies up with the right homes. We are coming up to holiday season – so please bear that in mind when applying – we will not hold a puppy for a month while people are away or home a puppy with a family who are going away and the puppy has to stay with strangers, nor will we home to people working in education who think its a good time to settle a puppy in and then come September leave the puppy 9 – 4 with a half hour toilet break. Sorry for the long post but just trying to avoid wasting anyone’s time, including our own, as we are only a small rescue run by volunteers, all of us work and have families so time is precious to us too.
We are expecting a high level of applications for these pups so please in the first instance apply by email for one of our questionnaires which answers all our questions about yourselves and the home you can offer. It will take us time to sort through them carefully to ensure the right matches. This may mean we are unable to get back to everyone who applies for a while and we apologise and we thank you for your time in completing our application forms.
