Bear – 1 year old male Akita cross Husky

Bear is a 1 year old male Akita cross Husky. He is a stunning dog who came to us via another rescue who felt we were able to give him more one to one time than they were able to. Bear is a playful and energetic dog who enjoys the company of people and dogs alike and will require an experienced home. He needs a couple of hours of walks/exercise every day minimum, so an active home who’s life revolves around their pets will be essential.

Whilst Akitas can sometimes be a little aloof, Bear is more Husky like in terms of his character. He is more sociable and into his people, which does not not mean to say that he may not develop a guarding side once in a home. A family comfortable with dealing with guarding tendencies would be welcome. He is working with the team on learning about boundaries. He is very playful and sometimes can be over the top with both people and canine friends so will need people who can handle his energy and guide him so that he can develop into a balanced dog.

We are not looking for anyone with a dominant approach to guiding Bear, but someone who’s energy will inspire respect from the dog. Bear is incredibly intelligent, he will try to manipulate situations and will not respond well to anyone trying to overpower him either physically or verbally. His owner will need to be able to read him and be two steps ahead to guide him positively. He is a huge hit with many of our volunteers, he has a great fun side, as you can tell from the pictures, he’s a cheeky smart chap with a bright future ahead. He has responded well to training and enjoys Essential oil sessions where he learns to relax and zone out something he has come to grips very well.

Bear needs to be with people with a calm energy committed to training, who can give him the amount of exercise his breed requires. Bear will appeal to anyone looking to have a special bond with their dog and seeing him turn into a beautiful solid individual, which Bear has in him. He will be incredibly loving and loyal to his family. He would relish running with anyone, so cani-cross enthusiasts are a good option for him too.

Bear is looking for an adult only home, he can go with other dogs providing successful introduction but no small furries please. Note: Bear will need to be met a few times before an adoption.
