Nina is a 6 month old female possibly Pointer cross Lurcher type girly. When we go to Spain to help dogs we look for the dogs with lovely temperaments, ones that us ourselves would have living in our family homes, there are so many here needing help, its very overwhelming and we can only help a handful as only being a small rescue with limited time when we are here but we do our best to help dogs like Nina who are getting older every week with no interest due to the huge volume here needing help – so hopefully somebody who is the perfect match will see the wonderful potential we have seen in Nina.
This lovely girly has a sad past typical of many dogs unfortunately, she was taken on as a puppy by an elderly couple in their late seventies in Spain, they put no work into her what so ever and once she got bigger and stronger at 8 months old decided they could not longer cope with her, these nice people loved her that much they took her down to the local pound in Spain which is also known as a kill shelter as so many dogs and limited spaces dogs are regularly put down every week to make room for new ones. Nina was lucky this day a couple who volunteer for the Charity we support took pity on this confused young dog and managed to persuade the Charity to take her under their wing. Nina has been in their care for the last 8 months when I met her this week. She has been in kennels and I would say is not coping that well, she was desperate to get to us for love and is underweight due to not being able to relax.
We decided to assess Nina further as she looked like she had such a beautiful temperament – so off I went out with Nina, yes she is strong on the lead and does not know how to walk very well, so just did a bit of practice in the car park and she responded so quickly, she has such a lovely character but just has not had any training, but what you have is a dog that is good with other dogs, children, people and cats – she does not have behaviour issues as such just needs training – as someone in the vets said she is an athletic she needs her exercise as a young dog of this mix should, dog training and you will have a wonderful dog – she would be a prime candidate for agility or cani cross.
Nina is going to need an experienced home who has done training before – its all basic stuff she needs but will still take time, a home where her energy needs will be met as she is not a coach potato doggy – Nina will be spayed, vaccinated and have her own pet passport if you feel you could be the right home for this lovely young dog please email us.
