Max is a 6 year old male Patterdale Terrier. Handsome Max is sadly looking for a new home due to a change in his owner’s circumstances. Unfortunately the home environment is no longer suitable for Max and this is beginning to affect his behaviour as he is becoming increasingly stressed. Max is such a sweet boy, he is friendly, affectionate and generally a happy boy when he is feeling safe and content. He is clean and non-destructive in the home and is okay to be left alone for a couple of hours. However Max does have some behavioural issues which are triggered by stress, for example he may chase his tail and spin if you go to leave a room, he also becomes very upset by people arguing and will bark. He has also snapped in the past because of this, however Max is not an aggressive dog and happily greets strangers outside of the home as well as visitors to the home.
Max has also been known to guard bones in the past but has never displayed any aggression around food and has let his owner take items off him that he has stolen. He is a vocal dog and will bark at noises outside of the home. He does not cope well with a hectic environment or any type of commotion. We feel that Max just needs a calm and quiet household where he can settle in at his own pace, ideally with an understanding owner who is experienced with rescue dogs. He will need an adult only home free from young children and without any children planned for the future.
Max can often be reluctant to go for walks unless two people are present at the time, we feel that this is a confidence issue and hope that with some help from our behaviourist this may improve. Max does not like other dogs and will snap at them if they come over to sniff him, however this is easily managed by walking him in quieter areas at quieter times of the day. Max currently lives with a cat, however the cat is quite cautious of him and usually stays out of the way behind a baby gate. Max does not react to the cat and we feel that he may have potential to live with a confident cat in his new home.
Overall Max is a lovely dog and we are confident that his behaviour will improve in a calmer environment. We are desperate to match Max to a home much more suited to his needs and really do hope that he is given a second chance at happiness.
*Please note that Max is much bigger than a Patterdale Terrier and may have some Labrador in his breeding.
